Well, here we are. Moved from cold country to be close to the coast, and boom; a hurricane. It isn’t that it is unexpected, just not wanted. We have prepared as well as we know how, so will wait it out.

It’s interesting, life behind the hurricane shutters. All you can do is hear the wind and rain, but you can’t see anything. We had to sneak out through the garage so we could see what was going on. It’s tough being claustrophobic, but it is what it is.

For anyone going thru this, be safe and take care of yourself.

For those who are reading The Wilson Chronicles, I hope you are enjoying the story. My latest Facebook post boost has been shared by over six hundred people, so hopefully I hit a sweet spot and might get more book sales out of that. It makes you feel good when you know people are reading the work!

Well, the eye of Sally should pass very close to us tonight, if not over us. The wind is forecast to be 85 gusting to 100, so I’m not sure how we will sleep, but we’ll try.

Whew! It’s unreal that my last post was July 22nd. Wow! So much has happened!

We visited ND for a couple of weeks, got our new home in order, purchased a cart with fat tires to take our stuff out onto the beach; I mean busy!!

And the adventures Dhakini has been on! If you don’t know, Dhakini is the lead in my current WIP. That girl has seen some things!!

All in all, having a wonderful life, and wish the same for all.

Life is a mixed bag these days.

• Watching grandkids grow, fearing what their world will be like since they are not experiencing anything like what all the generations before them experienced. Will this make them a different breed of humanity? Will it be good or bad? Only time will tell.
• Moving to a new home close to the beach. Totally fun, relaxed, enjoyable; wandering if we will be safe there and hoping our family and friends can visit.
• Enjoying retirement. Well, enough said.

It’s impossible to escape the news that surrounds us, the fear, anxiety. People are scared, and understandably so. Yet people are happy, loving their family, enjoying their friends. I think the thing that gets me the most is the dichotomy of feelings that we experience or witness every day.

When moderate was the norm, we only saw the activities of the far left and right fringe occasionally. They were kept at bay and not given airtime. But today, the more violent the activities the more press they receive. Why the need to support these violent groups with enhanced airtime?

Its a real concern as you watch the morality, decency, respect, and good spirit of our nation degrade. We are being ground down into a form of putty that can be reformed into someone else’s vision of who we should be. I sure hope there are enough patriots and people with common sense and a strong moral compass to withstand the onslaught. A few years ago I knew the answer to that question; today I am, sadly, not so sure.

But I will always have hope. I have a strong belief that at the end of the day, decency will prevail. I’m just not sure how long that day will be. So, I write! I write about good people overcoming the odds and fighting back evil. I write in the belief of the spirit of good as the victor in all things related to the universe. We are progressing, albeit two steps forward and one step backwards. But we are going to get through this; that I believe.

It took a few to decide whether to call this post sadness vs anger, but in the end, I chose sadness.

It’s truly heartbreaking to watch as some of our fellow Americans suffer. First with death from Covid, then with death by LE, but now; out of control violence.

I grew up in a world where this type of violence was squashed, so I have a hard time watching people’s livelihoods being destroyed, innocent people being harmed, and violence being virtually rewarded.

I’m not sure who these people are. One thing is certain, they have no respect and have lost their humanity. So, do we treat them like the animals they are? Perhaps it’s time to fence off a city and send them all there, to live or die. But that would make us cruel.

Something must be done. You cannot appears the beast, you must control it. Send in the National Guard. End this nonsense.

The future is in the balance.

Every emotional rendezvous has a separation point. The current violence in our country is only a symptom of the emotional intensity that currently exists. But what is generating such energy?

Partially it is the nature of our culture. We glorify violence. We dehumanize the victims. We grind down the conscience. We trivialize values. We denigrate morals. We deny God.

These actions remove the constraints of the beast that lives within, letting wickedness and violence seem acceptable. Without a means to be peaceful, we turn to hate for those who are different, anger at those who tell us we are wrong. We seek a way to control.

We are failing. The problem is, so many people today don’t recognize our culture as such.

The present will create various paths to a new future. Will it be one of peace? Likely not.

Only time will tell.

“Then for you, it was real. We all feel. Feelings are never wrong, and they are very real for the person who has them. Your task is to learn how to help people make good decisions, not simply react to the emotions they feel.”

This is an excerpt from my current WIP, The Imperial Counselor. This is a story about someone developing and learning in order to become who they might be. It does, in truth, reflect each of us in our growth and desire to become who we could be.

The story is set in the far future in a place, far, far, away. Yet, it is real, now and close. Humans have been around for a long time; however, we are not much different today than we have always been.

We dream. We hope. We wish. Some people are born into a certain privilege and have some additional opportunities or ease of attaining some goals. But no one is born above another at the basic level of humanity. In this we are all equal.

I hope to have the book finished and published by late summer.

These are tough times. It’s difficult to let the mind explore ideas and be creative when you are staying home and watching the increasing body count from COVID-19.

Yet, it is my job, joy, and privilege to write.

Big shout-out to my wife, Kristina, for her love and cheerfulness during these times. Yes, she is sad at the losses; but I think we have discovered again that we not only love each other, we really like each other. It’s fabulous to be married to your best friend.

I hope everyone is well.

What would you leave as a legacy? What would people remember about you? What would your children, grandchildren and beyond, know of your life?

Sometimes, our thoughts are profound, if only for ourselves. Yet, those thoughts may be the seeds of knowledge our descendants need to grasp a better understanding of life.

Were I to pass tonight, with no opportunity to have a conversation about my thoughts with others, I would say;

I found and embraced the perfection of forgiveness only available through the gift given by Jesus Christ, my Lord and savior.

I worked at, and finally found, the greatest love I could imagine in Kristina, my wife.

I loved all my children.

I found the greatest joy in my grandchildren.

I lived life to the fullest.

I forgave everyone who harmed me.

I cared.

I hoped.

I dreamed.

I tried.

I have no regrets.

I only wish I could have done more.

 

It’s hard to grasp our situation. We’ve never had such granular ability to observe a virus spread or shut down our economy before. This is unknown ground for all of us.

Our leaders, political, medical and economic, say we can come out of this and restart our engine and take off. We’re spending trillions of dollars to try and hold the parts of the economic engine together while providing billions of dollars to beat the virus. Will it work? Only time will tell. And that’s the key here, time.

We are learning some things about ourselves, such as; we apparently need toilet paper above anything else, so the cleanliness of our butt’s is important; there are more people in service jobs than anyone thought about, and without them working, our way of life is very different; and sadly, for a lot of people, that staying home is hard.

However, the biggest lesson in this is that we are not outside of nature. We are biological animals, and even though we have smartphones, iPads, laptops, social media, instant connectedness, 24-hour involvement, games, music, etc., that seem to make us feel like we are not part of a herd, we are. We are one species of animal in nature, and it is to our peril when we forget this.

The natural cycle is for a herd to grow and shrink. Since we believe we are not part of a natural cycle, we believe we can grow indefinitely with no repercussions. I’m not sure nature sees it that way. We may be a parasite the Earth feels needs to be managed; who knows?

One thing is for sure, which is a central theme of The Wilson Chronicles, is we must get off this planet if we are to survive. Otherwise, one day, something truly deadly is going to come along, and we will have no ability to stand against it.

She is a ferocious yet compassionate woman. She can steal your breath, yet fill you with hope.

She is the warrior. She leads the way, destroys evil, and leaves possibility in her wake.

She is not a Goddess. She is merely immortal.
